Jurmala Jewish Community

The Jewish community of Jurmala was registered in 1996, uniting the jews that living in Jurmala and renew jewish life for locals and visitors as one. since Aug 2019 we have a jewish home in our lovely city – the Beit Israel synagogue, on Bulduru Prospekts.

Now we are in a proccess of building all the basics for having an active jewish life such as a tasty kosher place to eat, Mikveh, activitis for all ages and more, both for our local members of the community and for the many visitors who are coming to rest and enjoy the special nature and relaxation of Jurmala.

 

The only active synagogue in Jurmala

In the city of Jurmala since the Second World War there has not been a single active synagogue. And here with a great joy: at the address of Bulduru prospekts 33, at the end of August 2018, the only functioning synagogue in Jurmala opened.

The “Beit Israel” synagogue is located on the first floor of a private house, where Vice-President of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress, Emanuel Grinshpun dedicated it to the memory of his father Israel ben Meir a-Cohen Grinshpun. For the new synagogue a Torah scroll was specially written, antique furniture and chandeliers were restored by special order, and new furniture was made.

On a regular basis…

On a regular basis daily prayers are held at Beit Israel, Shabbats are celebrated and meals are organized, all important events of the Jewish calendar are celebrated, as well as lectures on current social, cultural and historical topics are held and various educational programs are carried out.

We will be happy to host your jewish life events, as we did many times already in the first year of the synagogue’s existence!
